Are you 25 or younger, competing at the beginner novice level or above and looking for a fun way to kick off your summer season? You’re in luck! We still have space for our annual Young Rider Camp at GMHA in South Woodstock, VT on July 17-20th.
Come join us for 3 full days of instruction in all 3-phases from Stephie Baer, John Bourgoin, Suzi Gornall, Jane Hamlin, Jan Byyny, AND daily horse management lessons from FEI groom, Lauren Mair.
Camp includes:
- Three days of instruction, 2 mounted lessons per day and one unmounted lesson per day.
- All meals beginning with dinner on Monday through lunch on Thursday. Please send snacks with your campers!
- Lodging. All campers will stay at the Shire Woodstock.
- Transportation will be provided to and from the motel.
- Stabling for ONE horse. Each camper is responsible for providing hay, grain, and shavings for their horse. Tack and feed stalls will be available. Shavings can be purchased at GMHA for $11 per bag. Hay can be purchased for $10/bale. This must be ordered ahead.
- GMHA has wheelbarrows that campers can use. Bring your own pitchforks and rakes.
- Camp fee includes a polo shirt. Please indicate on your application what size shirt you would like. Sizes are unisex.
- EMT on premises
- Vet and Farrier on call.
Applicant Qualifications and Camp Requirements
- Applicants must be a current member of BOTH the USEA Area 1 Young Rider Program and the USEA. If you are not a member of the Area 1 Young Rider Program, you may join by logging in to your USEA online member dashboard, then scroll to Membership.
- Applicants must have successfully completed all three phases of at least ONE affiliated Beginner Novice or higher Horse Trial. Applicants not having completed an affiliated USEA Horse Trials may be eligible and considered if trainer recommended.
- The applicant will be considered based on: Horsemanship skills, motivation, goals, maturity, positive attitude, and work ethic.
- The horse or pony must be fit and capable of a 1 1/2 hour lesson per day for 3 days at the applicable recognized level.
- Only one horse per camper.
- Horses must be recently and properly shod and fully immunized, including rabies and a current Coggins.
- Campers may use their own transportation with a valid driver’s license and proof of valid and current vehicle insurance. No drivers under 18 years old are permitted to transport campers under 18 years without the passenger’s parental consent.
