Mentorships
Program Summary: Using the design of the USEA Young Rider Mentorship Program, previously offered at the FEI North American Youth Championships (NAYC), The Young Rider Program is thrilled to bring mentorship opportunities to the 2024 USEF Young Rider Championships.
This mentorship program allows Young Riders to learn from experienced equine professionals, thus gaining a better understanding of career paths, skill development, networking, and goal setting for his/her future.
Mentoring is a great way for more experienced equine professionals to share their experience with YR protégés (mentees), providing important learning opportunities for both participants. The mentors will gain the ability to meet the next generation of officials and the mentees will have the opportunity to learn about the behind-the-scenes of USEA recognized events along with future career opportunities.
A successful mentoring partnership benefits those involved through increased confidence and a sense of direction.
The mentoring program requires honesty, openness, commitment, and effort by both the mentor and mentee.
Tips for a successful mentoring partnership: For both the mentor and the mentee, the following contributes to a successful mentoring partnership:
- Establish boundaries – times to meet and end each day
- Be open about working together and maintain professional behavior
- Maintain an absolute commitment to trust and confidentiality between participants
Deadlines to apply for a mentorship at the USEF Young Rider Championships is Wednesday, June 5, 2024.
