Throughout the year the Area 1 Young Rider Program hosts a series of both mounted and un-mounted educational opportunities that are available to all Young Rider Members. These include symposiums, clinics, an annual camp held at GMHA in South Woodstock, Vermont, along with a series of mentorships with USEA Event officials including but not limited to: technical delegates, course designers, and secretaries at different sanctioned events across Area 1.
Additional educational opportunities include the USEA Emerging Athlete U21 Program (Training Level & Above) and the USEF Eventing Development 25 Program (CCI3* & Above)
2025 Opportunities
February 28 – March 1, 2025 – YR Social & Educational Event | Aiken, SC
Hosted by Area II Young Riders, this is a 2-day educational event. Day 1 is Dressage Analysis with Bettina Hoy and Show Jumping Course Walk with CD, Michel Vailllancourt and Phillip Dutton. Day 2, is a cross-country tailgate. RSVP here.
April 5, 2025 – Spring Symposium | Durham, NH

June 19, 2025 – Summer Clinic | Amenia, NY
This is a 1-day, 2-ride clinic with Booli Selmayr and Emma Lomangino. The morning will consist of private dressage lessons in the morning and small group jump lessons in the afternoon. Stay tuned for more details and sign-ups.
June 17-18, 2025 – USEA EA21 East I Clinic | Leesburg, VA
The East I Clinic will be held at Morven Park International Equestrian Center in Leesburg, VA, and coached by Bec Braitling. The USEA will cover the regional clinic cost and stabling fees. Applicants will be responsible for travel and lodging costs. More information can be found here.
July 14-17, 2025 – Area 1 YR Camp | South Woodstock, VT
This is a 3-day, overnight camp designed exclusively for members of the Area 1 Young Rider program who are between the ages of 12 and 25 years old and have completed at least 1 Beginner Novice event or have a written recommendation from their current riding instructor. Registration will be available in March.
July 29-30, 2025 – USEA EA21 East II Clinic | Aiken, SC

August 2-3, 2025 – LandSafe Clinic | Millis, MA
LandSafe is an unmounted 2-day (approx. 4 hrs per day) training program designed to teach the best practices of fall prevention and response. The curriculum relies on one-on-one interaction as well as group learning. Riders receive ample time on the gym mats where they will learn body shaping drills and exercises to reduce their rider risk in a fall scenario. On the simulator, throughout the two days participants will practice a rotational fall, a rear, off-the-shoulder, and emergency dismount. More information and registration can be found here. Area 1 Young Riders are eligible for a $50.00 reimbursement for this clinic.

Mentorships

Interested in becoming an equine professional? The USEA Youth Mentorship Program gives a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run and officiate an international event, helps Young Riders and Intercollegiate athletes experience competition from the inside, as a part of the officiating and management teams, encourages furthering sport education, and helps youth athletes seek and identify career paths and job opportunities, network, communicate, and seek new experiences within the eventing
USEA Young Riders and Intercollegiate athletes accepted to the Mentorship Program will have the opportunity to shadow some of the most prestigious eventing officials in the world at the annual USEF Eventing Young Rider Championships or the USEA Intercollegiate Eventing Championship. Selected participants will be able to experience the competition with:
- FEI President of the Ground Jury,
- FEI Member of the Ground Jury,
- FEI Steward,
- FEI Technical Delegate,
- Chief FEI Veterinarian,
- Organizer for Eventing, or
- Cross-Country Course Designer/Cross-Country Builder

Who can apply?
- Any Young Rider or Collegiate Member who is 25 years and younger
- Must be a current member of their Area Young Rider Program or Collegiate Team
- Must not be competing or volunteering at the selected event
- If under 18, permission by parent/guardian must be obtained
- Must be able to spend the majority of the day with officials, which requires outdoor work, standing, walking, and observing as well as sitting, riding in golf carts or other ground transports, in all weather conditions
- Must have a desire to further their eventing education
