Area 1 Championships 2023 – GVRDC

Placing 1-5 at 2022 Championships counts as qualifier for 2023. It also qualifies for AEC.

Requirements for all:

  1. All Area Championship competitors MUST be current USEA members both at the time of qualifying AND the championship. Points for qualification are not retroactive after the 14 day grace period.
  2. All horses must be registered with USEA at the time of qualifying.
  3. All qualifying competitions must be USEA registered horse trials, two-day or three-day events.
  4. Divisions must have five or more starters to count as qualifying competitions.
  5. No horse may compete in more than one Area I Championship division in a calendar year.
  6. List all qualifying competitions on your entry form.
  7. Open to members of other Areas, but must qualify within Area I (except Preliminary).
  8. To qualify, you and the horse must have placed 1st thru 3rd at one event during the qualifying period at the level, including “Amateur Placings”* as determined by the USEA qualifications for the AEC. In addition, placing 1-5 at the previous year’s championship constitutes a qualifying ride.
  9. The qualifying period for each championship will be: from the closing date of the previous year’s championship to the closing date of the current year’s championship. (At the organizer’s discretion the closing date may be extended.).
  10. Horse and rider must qualify together.

Championship Divisions:

  1. Beginner Novice Championships:
    Rider Division: Rider may not have competed above novice level within the (2) previous years (including year of the championship). Horse may be of any grade or experience. In a Rider Championship division, horses may have prior experience at higher levels. If sufficient entries (each division must have at least 5 riders), the division may be split between Junior and Senior.
  2. Novice Championships: Rider may never have competed above training level within the (2) previous years (including year of the championship). Horse may be of any grade or experience. In a Rider Championship division, horses may have prior experience at higher levels. If sufficient entries, the division may be split between Junior and Senior. If entries warrant, organizers may also offer a horse division, open to all riders. To qualify, horses must never have competed at preliminary level or above.
  3. Training Championships: Rider may never have competed above preliminary level within the (2) previous years (including year of the championship). Horse may be of any grade or experience. In a Rider Championship division, horses may have prior experience at higher levels If sufficient entries, the division may be split between Junior and Senior. If entries warrant, organizers may also offer a horse division, open to all riders. To qualify, horses must never have competed at intermediate level or above.
  4. Preliminary Championships: Any qualified rider and horse may compete.

It is the responsibility of the competitor to know the know the qualifications and terms of these championships and enter in accordance with those specifications. Competitors who have improperly entered a championship division will forfeit their placing and awards.

*Amateur Placing is the system that bumps up in placing if an amateur places behind a professional in a division. EG: if you place 4th in a division with one or more professionals placing 1-3 you ARE qualified for the championships. Please check your USEA competition record for your qualification.
