In an effort to increase entries for the 2025 USEA Area 1 Championships, the Area 1 Council is pleased to announce an update to the qualification criteria for this year’s Championships that will be held August 16-17, 2025 in conjunction with Genesee Valley Riding & Driving Club August H.T. in Geneseo, New York.
The update in qualification criteria will now permit rider and horse combinations in any level Starter through Preliminary, to become qualified for the Championships upon placing 1st through 5th at one (1) USEA recognized event in Area 1 (including Amateur placings). For Modified and Preliminary the result may be from a USEA recognized event in any area. Placings 1st through 5th from the start of the qualification period, August 18 2024, will be honored in this change. For example if you placed 5th at Course Brook Farm Fall Horse Trials in 2024, you will be considered qualified for this year’s Championships. Additional qualifications can be found here. Please note that different levels have additional qualifications. It is the responsibility of the competitor to know the qualifications and terms of these championships and enter in accordance with those specifications. Competitors who have improperly entered a championship division will forfeit their placing and awards.
This change follows the United States Eventing Association’s recent announcement regarding the updated qualification criteria for the 2025 American Eventing Championships to take place at Galway Downs later this year. Similar to the USEA’ Executive Committee, the Area 1 Council has authorized this change temporarily for 2025 and will re-evaluate at the beginning of the following competition year in 2026.

August 16, 2025 – 2025 Area 1 Championships Begins

About the Area 1 Championships:
The Area 1 Championships are held on an annual basis and take place within Area 1 usually late summer or early fall. Host sites are to be announced annually at the Area 1 Annual Meeting and deadlines to apply for to host the Championship are due by November 1 prior to the targeted host event.
