Throughout the year there are multiple competitive opportunities both hosted by the Area 1 Young Rider Program, the United States Eventing Association (USEA) or the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF). Below is an outline of these opportunities and links to more information for each.
Area 1 Young Rider Virtual Team Challenge | All Recognized Events
This is a season long virtual competition between teams selected at random. Sign-ups are required and teams are announced in the spring, prior to the start of the Area 1 competition season. Team members earn points for team and individual leaderboards by entering, competing, placing, and volunteering at recognized horse trials. More information can be found here.
USEA Interscholastic Eventing League | Select Area 1 Events
This is a program hosted and organized by the USEA that is separate from the Area 1 Young Rider Program, however YRP members are eligible to participate but must be a student in grades 5 through 12. This is a club based opportunity where riders create their own and compete on teams at events that host IEL Challenges. More information can be found here.
USEA Intercollegiate Eventing
This is a program hosted and organized by the USEA that is separate from the Area 1 YR Program, however YRP members are eligible to participate but must be enrolled undergraduate in an accredited college/university. College/universities must be registered as an affiliate organization of the USEA and compete on teams at events that host Intercollegiate team competitions. More information can be found here.
June 26-28, 2026 – USEF Eventing Young Rider Championships | Adamstown, MD
This is a national team competition where teams are made up of four (4) riders per level and two (2) individuals may be sent to represent Area 1. To be considered for a team, riders must be eligible to compete in a CCI1*, CCI2*, or CCI3* and meet the required age categories. These Championships currently take place at Loch Moy Farm in conjunction with the Maryland International + Horse Trials in Adamstown, MD. More information can be found here.
July 22-26, 2026 – FEI Eventing World Championship U25 | Co. Cork, Ireland
This is a global competition that bridges the gap and serves as crucial stepping stones, offering high-level international experience to Senior Championships (FEI World Championships, Pan American Games, Olympic Games). For eventing this is a newly launched Eventing World Championship starting 2026 at CCI4*-S level. More information can be found here.
October 22-23, 2026 – Area 1 Young Rider Three-Day Event Team | Laytonsville, MD
This is a team competition that offers an educational component to the traditional long format Three-Day Event. Teams may be created at the Beginner Novice, Novice, Training, and Modified levels. More information will be announced in 2026.
