Outlook Farm (Norwich, VT)

The Area 1 EA21 Prep Camp is held in August at Outlook Farm in Norwich, Vermont. This is a 2-day, overnight camp designed for members of the Area 1 Young Rider program to provide a pathway to the USEA EA21 Program. To be eligible, riders must have completed 4 MERs at the Novice level or above.

Schedule:
- Day 1: August 13 – Morning dressage lessons with a mid-day workshop/lecture followed by afternoon show jump lessons and an evening workshop/lecture.
- Day 2: August 14 – Cross Country lessons with a workshop/lecture.
Cost:
- In a similar structure to the USEA EA21 Clinics, the Area 1 Young Rider Program will cover the cost for the clinic and stabling. Once selected, please inquire about rider accommodation options.
Application Qualifications & Requirements:
- Applicants must be a current member of BOTH the USEA Area 1 Young Rider Program and the USEA. If you are not a member of the Area 1 Young Rider Program, you may join by logging in to your USEA online member dashboard, then scroll to Membership.
- Horses must be recently and properly shod and fully immunized, including rabies and current coggins.
- Applicants must have completed 4 MERs at the Novice level or above.
- Applicants will be reviewed and selected by the Area 1 Selectors
How to Obtain a Minimum Eligibility Requirement (MER) for Novice:
- An MER is obtained by completing a USEA recognized horse trial
- Not more than 45 penalty points in the dressage test
- No jumping penalties at obstacles on the cross country test unless specified otherwise, and not more than 75 seconds (30 penalty points) exceeding the optimum time
- Not more than 16 penalties at obstacles in the jumping test
- 25 penalty points received for dangerous riding will not achieve a national qualifying result.
IMPORTANT! – Complete the application with all the uploaded documents no later than July 27. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Tips When Applying to Participate in the USEA Emerging Athletes 21 Program
Meet EA21 Prep Camp Coaches:
Jane Hamlin is an active event and dressage rider, trainer, and coach based at Pirouette Farm in Norwich, Vermont. Her positive attitude, with an emphasis on teaching good basics, has produced successful riders at the beginner level to the Olympic level. She enjoys teaching both adult amateurs as well as young riders and is a popular clinician teaching at such clinics as the Area 1 Young Rider camp and the Junior Horsemanship Clinic at GMHA. In addition to her teaching, she brings along nice young horses with careful preparation and education. Jane holds both a USEF Event and Dressage judge’s license as well as an FEI International Eventing Judge license.
Based in Vermont and Aiken, South Carolina, Bevin O’Reilly Dugan is a veteran 3* eventer, USEA ECP-Certified Instructor, and USDF Bronze and Silver medalist. Her methodical process creates astrong element of trust between horse and rider, which inspires a greater level of commitment and passion from everyone she reaches. Her creative use of classical principles combined with kind and contemporary training strategies results in confident horses and riders who find success in the show ring as well as at home.
