Petey is a 13-1 hand Welsh. He is approximately 28 years old. And what a blaze! Petey has been an “easy keeper” and prefers the field to the barn. The past two years he’s reportedly had some issues keeping winter weight on due to his difficulty chewing hay. (Soaked hay and/or hay stretcher will likely solve this issue.) In his day he was a very forward pony with a lot of spunk. In fact, he rode in the first field with the big boys at the North Country Hound fixtures in Hartland VT and Lyme NH. Our daughter (now 20 and outgrown) rode her daily for 5 years over short rails and on miles of trails. Over the past five years, he has been a companion to a rescue in North Charlestown NH; and most recently to a thoroughbred and another pony in Lyme. (That thoroughbred has died and Petey’s current landlords want to be horse-free by October 1.) Ideally, we’d like to see Petey continue to serve as a companion horse. He’s grazed well with others and doesn’t feel the need to be top dog; but he can also take care of himself. The ideal situation would be a “forever home” that was proximate to the Monadnock Region; and where occasional visitation by his family would be possible.
