LEARN MORE ABOUT THE NAJYRC

The North American Junior and Young Rider Championship is a “Junior Olympics”-style competition in which riders aged 14-21 from the US (which is divided into ten “Areas”), Canada, and Mexico compete in their chosen discipline: dressage, endurance, eventing, para-dressage, show jumping, or reining. The NAJYRC in eventing has two levels – a CCI1* competition for riders 14-18 years old, and a CIC2* competition for riders aged 16-21. Each competing region (i.e., each US Area, and Canada and Mexico) is invited to field a team of four (4) riders at each level. Scores earned by team riders are combined to determine team placings, and are also considered individually to determine individual placings. In addition to team members, each region is permitted to send two riders at each level whose scores are considered for individual placings but do not contribute to the team’s standing.

In 2016, Area I sent six eventing riders to the NAJYRC, all at the CCI1* level. Under the guidance of head coach Mikki Kuchta and Chef d’Equipe Carol Mayo, Area I riders had impressive individual placings, including 2nd (Haley Rosenberg on Evil Munchkin), 3rd (Cornelia Dorr on Sir Patico MH), 7th (Katie Lichten on RF Luminati), 15th (Erica Jarrell on Uni Sprite), and 27th (Eliza Eddy on LVS Jackson). The Area I team won gold!

In 2017, Olympian Buck Davidson has taken over the reins as head coach for Area I. We are hoping to field teams at both the CCI1* and CIC2* level, and possibly to send one or more individual riders at both levels as well! We also have a full slate of groom candidates hoping to earn spots supporting the riders.

The NAJYRC evening competition is being held in conjunction with the “Event at Rebecca Farm” in Kalispell, Montana, from July 19-23, 2017. Rider candidates are currently working hard to complete their qualification requirements and to prepare for the selection event at Groton House Farm in Hamilton, MA, June 23-25, 2017.

Riders, grooms, horses, and staff rely on support of the eventing community to make the trip to the NAJYRC every year. We cannot thank you enough for your interest and your support!
